Re: Coventry City
Other clubs play in council owned stadium. Newcastle, man city , Swansea, hull city etc. Then there are the holding groups much like orient are teams like arsenal Chelsea, Liverpool etc. Outright owners are teams like palace Sunderland and man Utd. Not every team turn into a Coventry or orient, their are plenty of teams who own the ground who hit rock bottom ie portsmouth

I loved their brown kit.

Remember a trip to highfield rd, last game of the season I think, as a lot of people were in fancy dress. Pretty sure the pink panther was there that day.

When we got relegated with wolves they sold all their best players and we strengthened ours. We went up they went down we are now moaning we ain't in the top six and they're probably still worried the could disappear

I think it's adequate, mate. Considering the 2004/05 season average attendance.

I bet the 7500 at that match were having a better time than us on a matchday.

Always a top division team in my childhood, along with Wednesday, Forest and Leeds. Sad to see their demise.

Man City averaged 27k when they were in the lower depths so Coventry City is not an indicator of how things could go for us if that ever happened.

They've also been messed about with rented stadiums, imagine D&S taking us over to Watford or somewhere to play for half a season because they'd got into a rent dispute with the LDC!

Re: Coventry City
Used to go regularly when a student at Warwick Univ. Best player I ever saw there, by a mile, was Tommy Hutchinson, the kind of player Scotland can't produce these days. Jim Blyth was a very good goalkeeper, and they had a terrifying defender called Alan Dugdale. He came to the university football club with Jim Blyth. JB was great; Dugdale more or less threatened to do in a friend of mine who asked if he expected to get back in the first team soon. Thing was, they both seemed not much different to ordinary blokes you'd meet anywhere. It's a bit different today.

Re: Coventry City
Even if we went down as far as Coventry, Ern? I can't say I agree. Maybe in the Championship, but beyond that our support would dwindle down to those that actually give a monkeys and can afford to go, which works out to around 30,000 max in my opinion.

Wasn't our average gate for the 2004/05 season 27,000? That was almost a 10k drop, one division away from the top flight.

Re: Coventry City
Pub k do agree relegation would fuck us up and that could still happen this season although i would be very surprised
But difference is im confident even in the london dump bowl we would still be pulling in 40k plus every game

We're a much bigger club, Ern. Imagine the roles were reversed though, mate and we have at best depending on the game of 27k at the OS and I reckon an average of 18 to 20k.

If the club isn't well run from here, West Ham United Football Club could find itself in a perilous position.
